What services does Crossroads Maine offer?
Crossroads’ programs and services include comprehensive mental health and substance abuse assessments; individual, group, couples and family counseling; an intensive outpatient program (IOP); DEEP evaluation and treatment; Maine’s only residential program for children and mothers; short-term residential treatment for women. Group and IOP treatment are separately provided for women and men to optimize the opportunities for gender responsive therapy.
Note: Residential programs address substance abuse and co-occurring mental health problems and are for women only. All other services are offered to men and women.
Who is eligible for services at Crossroads?
Crossroads Maine provides services to individuals 18 and older for substance abuse and mental health treatment; adolescents on a case-by-case basis for substance abuse treatment; and affected family members, significant others and friends of persons with substance abuse issues for mental health counseling.

What are your business hours?
Greater Portland Counseling Center, Kennebunk Counseling Center, Crossroads Maine administrative offices and client services offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. Outpatient evening and weekend hours are available by appointment.
Please note that if the local public schools are closed due to inclement weather, then the Crossroads client services, outpatient and administrative offices are also closed.
What is your treatment philosophy?
Crossroads’ treatment philosophy is that substance abuse, mental health and co-occurring treatment must build upon and respect people’s unique needs to focus on self-determination, choices, positive relationships and connectedness. We believe services must be provided in a secure, non-judgmental, welcoming environment that embraces cultural diversity.
How long will my treatment last?
It depends on your situation. You will first participate in an evaluation and treatment planning process that is specifically geared to your individual needs and goals. You will be given program recommendations and options from a counselor. More information on typical treatment duration can be found in our program descriptions.
Where do I admit to a residential program on the day I begin treatment?
Clients should come to the actual residence at which they will be a client.
How do I pay for treatment at Crossroads?
Crossroads is in network with most major insurances to cover the cost of treatment. Crossroads also accepts self-pay and offers a competitive self-pay rate. Through the compassionate generosity of past patients and their families, a limited amount of financial assistance may be available to those who meet the financial needs assessment criteria. I received an OUI. Is Crossroads Driver Education and Evaluation Programs (DEEP) certified?
Yes, Crossroads is DEEP certified to provide evaluation and treatment to adults 18 years of age and older.
Does Crossroads provide access to medical or psychiatric services?
Yes. If medically necessary, staff will support clients in accessing medical treatment should the need arise. When clients present to treatment and already have a psychiatrist and/or medical team in place, we work hard to coordinate with those treatment providers as they will be a critical component to the client’s support system when they leave treatment. If the treatment team determines that a psychiatric evaluation is medically necessary, clients will be referred to a psychiatrist in the community.
Is there a wait list to get into your programs?
We make every effort to get clients into our programs as quickly as possible. Crossroads can typically get a person into outpatient counseling or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) immediately. There can sometimes be a short wait for residential programs, but spots are always opening up. If necessary, clients will often attend IOP while waiting for a bed.
What is your smoking policy?
Smoking is prohibited inside all of Crossroads’ facilities and vehicles. However, Crossroads does allow smoking at designated times during the day and in designated outdoor locations at its residential facilities.
