Before any treatment for an eating disorder can begin, it is essential to understand what the individual challenges, symptoms, and effects of the individual’s eating disorder are. There are various levels of treatment. Fortunately, a trained eating disorder counselor can guide clients to the right eating disorder treatment program for them. Crossroads offers residential and outpatient programs, including an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for eating disorder recovery. In an IOP, counselors work closely with clients to create a treatment plan. As a client, you will work closely with a counselor to create an individualized treatment plan targeting what may impede the road to recovery and healthier life. Early intervention is best when it comes to determining an eating disorder treatment plan.
The team at Crossroads can advise you on your best course of action for treating your eating disorder or that of a loved one. Reach out at 877.978.1667 today.
What Is an IOP?
There are different levels of treatment for eating disorders. Crossroads offers an intensive outpatient treatment program for eating disorders in addition to our residential treatment programs. An IOP is ideal for medically stable women who need trained professionals to manage their recovery from an eating disorder. Fortunately, they have the flexibility of doing it as part of their everyday schedule. They meet a few days a week for a few hours with counselors, clinicians, doctors, psychiatrists, and dieticians. Some of the support that clients receive at a treatment center and some can be more flexible off-site.
In addition to a residential program and IOP, Crossroads also offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP) where clients spend the day in treatment and then go home to a sober house in the evenings.
Crossroads offers a wide range of treatment programs for women, including:
- Gender-specific outpatient treatment
- Specialized treatment for eating disorders
- BackCove Women’s residential program
- Mothers and children residential programs in Maine
Why an IOP is Good for Eating Disorder Treatment
An IOP brings together people dealing with similar issues as part of their treatment for an eating disorder. While each person in the group could be at a different stage of their recovery, going through the process with a group of peers who understand you and support you is invaluable. This support and structure can also help prevent the need for a higher level of care.
An IOP for an eating disorder can be a good fit if:
- The individual is not a risk of harming themselves or others
- This type of support and structure would help the individual manage and cope with their disorder
- The symptoms and challenges associated with the eating disorder continue to have an impact on the individual’s life, even after initial treatment
- Any co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, depression, or substance use can be safely managed at this level of care
- The individual and their family can commit to the requirements of the IOP
