Crossroads for Women recently received a grant in the amount of $6,528.00 from the Davis Family Foundation for The Effects of Addiction on Friends and Family Project. The Davis Family Foundation provides grants primarily to Maine-based educational, medical and cultural/arts charitable organizations in support of a wide variety of worthwhile projects. The grant will be used to train additional clinicians to facilitate Crossroads for Women’s 5-week educational series, which helps friends and family members who have a loved one with a substance abuse problem to understand addiction and find support.
A loved one’s alcohol or drug problem affects everyone close, including spouses, partners, children, extended family, friends and co-workers. Friends or family members may be caught up in covering up for the loved one, in patterns of denial or just trying to figure out how to find help. “The Effects of Addiction on Friends & Family” explores the basics of addiction, the recovery process and how to be supportive of an addicted loved one while also taking care of you.
The positive feedback from the men and women that attend the educational series in Portland, ME has been tremendous. Training additional clinicians to facilitate the series will help to broaden its participant base, helping friends and family around the entire state of Maine.
