Participants of Crossroads for Women’s friends and family educational series typically react in this manner when presented with information about addiction and how it affects everyone around the addicted person. They realize they are not alone. They realize they can’t control what their loved one might be doing to themselves or to those around them. They find out how to take care of themselves, that they can’t ignore their own needs. They also find support when they might not have realized they need it in the first place.
The 4-week series, “The Effects of Addiction on Friends & Family,” explores the basics of addiction, the recovery process and how to be supportive of an addicted loved one while also taking care of you.
The series is offered to anyone who has a loved one with a substance abuse problem, male or female, who may or may not be in treatment and is held at Crossroads for Women’s outpatient office in Portland, Maine on 66 Pearl Street. Find out more information about the next series starting on Tuesday, March 4th.
