Today, Wednesday, May 2nd, is National Parity Day. The public can join a wide array of other health advocacy organizations in urging members of the U.S. House of Representatives to pass H.R. 1424, the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act. This legislation, sponsored by Representatives Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and Jim Ramstad (R-MN), would end insurance discrimination against people suffering from addiction and mental illnesses, making treatment centers for women much more accessible.
You can let members of the House on both sides of the political aisle know that it is vital for them to support this legislation. Add your voice to the grassroots effort by clicking on the following link: ACT NOW on the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007. Add your zip code, and an email letter with your name will automatically be sent to the House member in your home district.
It takes only a minute or two to do this. But the collective impact will resonate in Congress.
