In a perfect world, those battling addiction would be able to drop everything and seek the treatment they need. But that’s not the reality for most, especially women. Thankfully, many addiction treatment centers offer intensive outpatient programs (IOP) so that busy women can get the treatment they need and still maintain a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day schedules. Before any outpatient treatment can begin, clients meet with a licensed counselor with addiction and mental health expertise. Then, the counselors can better understand what they are dealing with and how to help. This first step will help determine the proper treatment for each person.
At Crossroads, we ensure a plan that works for the clients’ schedule and meets their needs for treatment and recovery. Our team helps you identify the best approach for your treatment and recovery to work with your hectic life. Outpatient Benefits
The most significant difference between outpatient and residential programs is the time commitment. Furthermore, residential programs include supervised medical detoxification. IOPs require you to attend meetings on certain days of the week for a set amount of time on those days. If checking into a residential treatment center is not an option for you, outpatient addiction treatment could be ideal. The benefits of outpatient programs include:
- Having the flexibility to work around your busy schedule
- Allowing you time to spend with friends and family during your treatment and recovery
- Not having to drop everything to get the help you need
- Being a more affordable option versus 24/7 residential care
It’s possible to start with an IOP and transition to a less intensive outpatient program as recovery progresses. When you get to the point where you can manage your own recovery, continuing care or aftercare will be the next step. Continuing care groups and aftercare counseling groups meet regularly, usually one day a week.
What Does an IOP For Women Look Like?
At Crossroads, we encourage women to engage in gender-responsive behavioral health outpatient treatment services to help support women and maintain their recovery. This treatment includes developing essential skills and coping methods for a healthier lifestyle. Gender-responsive models have great benefits because men and women face different challenges. Clients participate in counseling with others of the same gender to create a safer and more comfortable environment.
Being in a customized program to fit their individual needs helps each client to succeed in their recovery. In addition to the women’s only IOP at Crossroads, we offer a co-ed IOP for women three days a week with direct access to a Master’s level, licensed clinician.
Critical elements of Crossroads’ IOP programs include:
- Individual sessions
- Social support groups
- Relapse prevention groups
- Family education groups
- Early recovery groups
- 12-step meetings
