Addiction and mental health recovery is a feat that you should celebrate a little bit each day. Doing so can encourage you to stay sober, and help you to remember that each day is a new day to celebrate being free from substances. However, during the month of September, we observe National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate addiction recovery and recovery treatment.
At Crossroads Maine, we want to take this month to celebrate all that recovery means in the lives of the women we help. To learn more about the recovery treatment we offer, contact our team today at 877.978.1667.
What is National Recovery Month?
National Recovery Month is an event that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors each September. We use this month to educate people across the country about addiction treatment options and mental health programs. Both of these recovery options can empower individuals to move past their addiction and mental health condition and live a more rewarding life.
During National Recovery Month, we encourage those in recovery to celebrate the milestones of sobriety, similar to the celebrations that we would have when diseases such as cancer go into remission. When we celebrate these milestones, we are able to reinforce the healthy message that your mental and behavioral health are essential to your overall health. We also teach that relapse prevention can be effective and that addiction and mental health treatment can lead to recovery.
Millions of people in the United States live a life in recovery. Unfortunately, many of these achievements go unrecognized by the general population. However, National Recovery Month allows each person who lives in recovery to celebrate their sobriety and accomplishments.
Here at Crossroads Maine, we’re proud to celebrate National Recovery Month with the women at our residential treatment center. We celebrate the recovery and success of the women in recovery, and we’re happy to share the successes of you and your peers. Doing so allows each person to understand addiction and mental health recovery and increases the awareness of the need for treatment. It also can reduce the stigma of mental health conditions and addiction.
How Can I Celebrate National Recovery Month?
There are many ways to celebrate National Recovery Month. One of the ways that you can do this is by sharing your story with the people around you. Many people do not know how much addiction and mental health conditions can impact a person’s life. Hearing the stories of other people can be extremely beneficial to both the person telling the story and the people hearing it. You never know; it might encourage someone to get mental health or addiction treatment.
You can also throw a sober recovery celebration. During this time, encourage your friends in recovery to talk about what recovery means to them. You might be surprised by their answers.
Furthermore, you might consider visiting your treatment center. Many treatment centers offer alumni programs, which can encourage those in recovery to stay sober. You may also get a chance to talk to people who are currently going through addiction treatment. A word of encouragement can go a long way and motivate them to complete their treatment.
